The original Command & Conquer was one of the most popular real-time strategy games of all time, and a long series of sequels and spin offs have keep fans coming back for more. C&C:Red Alert was one of these spin offs and was a big hit with fans. Now as Electronic Arts prepares to release Red Alert 3 this holiday season, they have released the original Red Alert as freeware.
If you are a fan of real-time strategy games and you are willing to put up with graphics that are over a decade old, I think you will find the game play of Red Alert just as addictive as ever. As an added bonus, if you pre-order C&C:Red Alert 3 they will also give you C&C:Red Alert 2 for free!
Beware, it is a rather large download of 1GB if you want both the Soviet and Allied disks. Also, unless you are still running Win 95/98 you will need to follow the install guides for XP/Vista.
