The original Command & Conquer was one of the most popular real-time strategy games of all time, and a long series of sequels and spin offs have keep fans coming back for more. C&C:Red Alert was one of these spin offs and was a big hit with fans. Now as Electronic Arts prepares to release Red Alert 3 this holiday season, they have released the original Red Alert as freeware.

If you are a fan of real-time strategy games and you are willing to put up with graphics that are over a decade old, I think you will find the game play of Red Alert just as addictive as ever. As an added bonus, if you pre-order C&C:Red Alert 3 they will also give you C&C:Red Alert 2 for free!
Beware, it is a rather large download of 1GB if you want both the Soviet and Allied disks. Also, unless you are still running Win 95/98 you will need to follow the install guides for XP/Vista.

Its times like this I love having VirtualPC 2007(also freeware for valid vista owners). no need for dual boot with older games. You just run XP inside of Vista :)

lol

My roommate REALLY wanted to play this game, problem was that he couldn't install it. So 3 hours later I'm able to install it on my pc (he had the disks btw, this was 2 months ago). I have never, ever, played this game. When I first tried it I was laughing so hard at the graphics.

A little background on myself...

My first Video Game - Goldeneye
My first PC Game - Delta Force I and II
My first 3d PC game - Counterstrike
MY first MMO - WoW
My current game - Warhammer

So as you can see, I thought the graphics were terribad =D

I can see how the graphics would be laughable. but for those old enough to remember the tearing down of the berlin wall, this game is very nostalgic.

My first Video Game - Pac Man
My first PC Game - Lode Runner
My first 3d PC Game - Wolfenstine
My first MMO - WoW
My current game - Spore

Dude HK-47 was the most badass character ever to grace the video game world. Anyone who disagrees is a meatbag.

(In my defence I started gaming quite early. I remember playing video games before I was in kindergarden. It was a great bonding experience for me and my dad even then)

I never really thought about it too much but a 3-4 yr old could play q*bert! I guess games were much simpler then :)

Ok, apparently the topic of this thread has been changed to nostalgiac video games that make you lol when you think about them because of how awesome they were at the time you played them.

Ok I take it back, my first video game was actually Mario on the NES.
