Horrah! are very own Home! :D
*plops on a comfy lazyboy and kicks his feet up*
I'll get back to you on Christmas, when I get to finally use the laptop that has been sitting in my freaking closet for a month...
Finally got my order processed, but I am currently deployed to Iraq and won't return home until the end of Janruary. Sooo, the wife gets to play with the new laptop and this fancy schmancy 28 inch monitor that was on sale at best buy for $399 until I get home.
I ordered an eSATA 1 TB drive for added storage, has anyone added an eSATA drive to their system, and is it that much faster than USB2.0 in reality? The way I figure it, most new drives come with both usb and esata, so I might as well use what could be faster.
Also, how is the heat using the 5797? I also ordered a nice Anantec notebook cooler, just in case it's running hot.
Any other tips and pointers, send em my way.
Peace, from Balad, Iraq!

Good luck in Iraq and happy holidays!
ESATA is much faster than USB2.0. USB2.0 throughput does not ever achieve it's theoretical. It has overhead. Notice firewire has a lower theoretical but higher real world.
USB2.0 would I think top out at maybe 20MB/s ESATA from what I know can reach the same speed as internal. So for example a 320BG @5400 might get 60MB/s.
Coolers are cool (no pun intended) but your machine should run fine with out. I would run and test w/out cooler first. If all is well sure then run with cooler to add.
I notice in your sig you mention "turbo memory"? That is a joke, it does not work, for some it slows the system down. Sorry you bought. Disable when it arrives.
OK, my payment has been taken out of my bank account, but it hasn't cleared paypal yet, so maybe I can undo ordering the Turbo Memory. I only ordered the 2 gig at $45, so no biggy if I can't.
Just got off the phone with Justin... I was having second thoughts on the 5797 vs the 9262... but he convinced me it was a good choice because of the 1066 bus speed, the hdmi and esata, etc.
So, back to the turbo memory, are there any scenarios where it's benefitial? I mean, it can't be all that bad, can it? If so, why is Sager still including it?
Thanks, in advance.

I'm no expert, but I've heard you really only get benefit from it if you "train" it, that is, open programs you want stored there frequently so it learns which applications to load quicker...
Ahh, yeah, that makes sense. Will let you guys know how it goes once I finally get the machine set up.
Has anyone bench tested this machine against the 9262? Justin and I were discussing the FSB differences, and I believe that we're on the same page by saying that the 1066mhz bus speed should do better vs the 800mhz speed... but I have yet to see any numbers on this.
Thanks again for all the advice and help!
Also, thanks for the kind words regarding Iraq. Tis not terrible out here, we have phones and internet access... just not our own internet access so no gaming online. We even have King Crab Legs and Lobster on Wednesdays, but after a while, it's all like groundhogs day, except more repetative, haha.

I have added 4 gigs of ram with two sticks.
I have added a Seagate 320 gigabyte 7200rpm hard drive.
Now I am running Windows 7 Beta on it with no problems whatsoever. It scored a 7.9 on the video test!!!
I love this machine!!!!!

alright... Here is my delema.... I'm concidering a shiny new SSD for boosting my NP5792 and have come across what apears to be a decently priced, very fast SSD
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231242
now, my question.. I know the drive I have now is SATA150 and I'm not sure if the NP5792 has SATA300. I could spend time at home digging through my old papers to find this out, or spend time looking all over the internet for old specs (which is turning out harder than I first imagined)
anyone know if the NP5792 has SATA300? if not then the whole highspeed SSD thing is a moot point.
Tnx in advance :)

This says SATA 150, link (http://www.powernotebooks.com/specs/Sager/5792specs.php). Now that will be a bottleneck but would likely still give better performance than what you have now? I mean a 2ms RA has got to be nice?

I could be mistaken, but the theoretical speeds and real world speeds between sata150 and sata300 are negligible. Is there anyone else with more info on the speed differences?

But as I said he should still consider.

Hey guys. I've got a sager 5791, and it's starting to show it's age. I'm wondering if it's possible to upgrade the motherboard/processor/ram/videocard to what's in the newer 57xx range? If so, Justin do you sell these parts?
FYI for those with the 7950m gtx, you can go to the 8800M gts with very little pain, if you upgrade your bios, you also avoid the sleep issue! :)

Scorpion all those upgrades if MoBo even can fit?
MoBo $400
CPU $300
GPU $500
RAM $100.
Compatibility issues and frustration? Priceless.
But for the rest there is Master Card
I think if you sold yours for $500 or $600 and buy new would be cheaper in the long run.

I bought my Sager NP5790 here a couple of years ago (and just ordered a new NP 8760). I would like to update the 5790 to Windows 7. There are no drivers for any of the 57** series listed on the Sager support site. Can anyone tell me where I might get the drivers, or will Windows find them on its own?
