Vista has "Loudness Equalization" setting in Control Panel that can be enabled to increase the sound level.

Here is how to enable it:

1. Open "Control Panel" and change to "Classic View"
2. Open "Sound"
3. On "Playback" tab, select "speaker" and click on "properties"
4. Go to "Enhancements" tab and put a check mark on "Loudness Equalization" then click apply.

Note: Users with the X-Fi Xtreme Notebook Audio card will have to use the Realtek card to output to the speakers to enable this option. Works great though, thanks Justin.

Thanks for the note Zatara. :) It does give your sound a boost. ;)

In XP I created a profile in the "Realtek HD Audio Manger" with the equalizer settings all pushed to the top. This works well and makes the speakers loud enough for an audience sitting up to ten feet away to watch a movie.

Hey, well thanks for the tip, but it kind of work and kind of doesn't...
So if I disable it, thesound is Ok, its not loud at all wich sucks, but still ok.
Then if I enable the thing, the windows sounds almost are twice as loud , but the music or the movies are twice less loud...
Got any advice ? :)

Thanks

Disable the windows sounds. There's not much more annoying about Windows as listening to someone's notebook in a public place making stupid Microsoft noises. It's one of the first things I disable in a new computer.

My only comment on this? As I just found my "Realtek" control panel a week ago? If this "loudness" is in anyway similar to the loudness on H-fi systems (wow a blast from the past, what is a Hi-Fi?") it is just a bass boost at lower volumes. It has to do with phenomenon of sound waves and perception of those waves. Remember these adjustments do not monitor and adjust whether you are using notebook speakers or $1000+ Boston acoustics external speakers. That said I found the loudness control to be absolutely useless and must strongly disagree with Justin (hate to do). It is only a bass boost that loses effect as volume is increased.

That is my comment.

And of course happy holidays to all!

I know this is old, but after doing this my sounds were very noticably quieter just a deeper bass it seemed... I started up some music, turned it on and off a few times. Definately more clear and much much louder with it unchecked for me.
