WOW! Very sexy!!!! I'd love one of those! Sadly, though it will forever remain only a dream for me as I imagine the price will be prohibitive.
Anyway, my Xotic lappy I have now should last me for many years. (It's my first one).:)

Yes very nice. They keep pushing the envelope. And Anew I like you also suffer budget constraints. That said what the uber's buy trickles down to us. And at a nice price. My Asus with 14" screen bests a Alienware M-7700 that 2 1/2 years before was the absolute most powerful notebook (Chaz/notebookreview, link (http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=2841), 3/06). My cost $1199 Alienware $4317. In two years we could have better for say $1500. So always look at the best, add a couple of years and it could be ours at a good price.

I have not yet accepted 16:9 on computers I at this point do not want it to become standard. Vertical resolution is more critical for applications than Horizontal IMO. I could accept a 15.4 but jumping to 18" should be WUXGA.

Anew progress is great you would laugh at the specs of my 1st notebook ($3,000+) vs yours.

I may now have to sell my children and start spending money on these laptops. Lugging these big ones around is a good workout.

They say quad core and hybrid but will it be Nehalem? Or just another desktop Core 2? More likely it might even be mobile quad which would mean that the NP9262 will still be king....and with a higher resolution screen.

I'm not excited about it yet. I need to know more.

let hope this one has a HDMI slot, and will take 16gig or more of RAM and plus the 8-16 cpu head... hah quad are so 2007. :D:D:D

Uh oh, if this thing does have an HDMI out port I may have to sell everything I have (car, pro camera gear, etc. children if I had any) and get one of these long before I'm ready just because I will want to hook it up to my Receiver/TV HDMI to HDMI. (Not that VGA to VGA won't be fine with my current lappy. It would just be one cable instead of two).
Ok, I'm just going to go back to sleep now...

It is going to be the mobile quad core which is a mobile version of the Core 2, not the Core i7.

It will not outperform a quad core D901C so it will not be the new performance king. A quad core equipped Sager NP9262 will still have a much faster processor and a higher resolution screen. This is purely a portable gaming and entertainment machine and will have lower power consumption than the , heat, and presumably noise (although the 9262 is very quiet when the GPU fans are calm).

With 9800M GTX SLI it will play games very well and at lower resolution than WUXGA will help improve frame rates. I generally use 16:9 for gaming on my 16:10 and even 4:3 screens if the game supports the option. NVidia simply puts black bars at the top and bottom like in a movie.

It will almost certainly support HDMI and wil likely not fit into a typical 17" carrying case.

Here is another thread over @ NBR (http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=331870)that Gophn made with models anticipated for release at CeBIT. Looks like we should have some exciting new models early to mid next year. :)

To quote parts of the post in the link Justin listed:

Clevo D90xF (launch date: Q1 2009)
The next "King of Notebooks" ... successor of the current king: Clevo D901C
17" screen (up to 1920x1200)
Clevo being very secretive, so cannot confirm if its Core i7 or not
can only confirm that its a new Intel desktop platform (definitely newer than current
This I'd be willing to bet is going to be Core i7 based which is why Clevo would be secretive about it. If it wasn't Core i7 there would be nothing special about it other than maybe DDR3 support on a newer chipset which would not be much different than the current 9262. Still, the older chipset and lack of some advanced features like HDMI and DDR3 does steer some people away from the 9262 system even though in my opinion those features aren't all that important. We will see I guess but it clearly shows the 18" widescreen system is not designed to replace the 9262..

I'm more excited about Clevo entering the netbook market. I only wish someone would make a netbook with a 8" to 10" screen at 1280x800 resolution. Yes it'd be small type but no worse than 1920x1200 on a 17" screen and with such a small machine you'd naturally sit closer to it anyway. You just can't put enough info on the screen with a 1024x600 resolution. I've been seriously considering getting an ASUS 900HA to supplement the behemoth that is my NP9262.

My dream netbook would have a dual core atom, hybrid 9300gs(maybe a 9600)/GMA950, 2-4Gb RAM 1280x800 and a 6-8 hr battery life and built in 3G. Imagine WOW wherever you go! It doesnt seem to unrealistic to me!

Clevo... for christmas, this is my only wish!

Personally, I see no reason for them to build this thing, though that doesn't mean they shouldn't. Doubt I'll be buying it despite my Sager addition (I have three). My old NP9890 will receive cloned 500GB HDs soon and then returned to storage as a ready to go back up if the NP9261 gets terminally ill at a significantly inopportune time. The NP 9261 already has three Samsung 500GB HDs to help handle the serious video work I do with it. The NP2092 just got a cloned 500GB HD replacing its 320GB not bcause it needed but at $99 per HD--why not? Besides, it eliminates the need for me to drag along flash or external drives when go out of town or state to do presentations or across campus for the same.

So in a nutshell, this new 18" beast, beautiful as it is, is unlikely to give a user like me more than what I already have. But if they ever figure out how to install a refrigerative cooling system in the thing, all bets are off.
