That Asus N81VP-C1 looks like a nice machine. I like the lines and I like the ports and where they are placed.
I'm not crazy about the screen size or GPU though, but that's just personal preference.
Is the inside area where the keyboard is plastic or metal like on a Macbook Pro?

The material around the keyboard should be the same as the N80 series. This material on the N80 series was made of very hard plastic. The area right around the keyboard/touchpad indents slightly inward and is part of the original chassis. It makes for a neat little finishing touch IMO :)

Of course I like both. That said the the G50 is just similar but a few changes to what they already offer. Not knocking it likely perfect for some people. But the N81? Wow! Price and components. Yea CPU nice 2.66Ghz nice, my 2.53Ghz is close enough but sure every little extra is nice. For me the killer features are the cost and GPU. The cost is a combination of the entire package including that CPU I pretend like does not impress me. That is a lot of machine for a very low price. It offers things that previously were not available at any price in that form factor. I favor the smaller over the 17's with pure power. I sacrifice some performance for smaller. Well this offers graphics unheard of.

If what I am reading on notebook check is correct, HD4650 score of low 7,XXX? in a 14. 8800m GTS is high 7,XXX. Well 8800m GTS was offered in 17" desktop replacements not 14". This is very far above 8700m GT also mostly offered in 17". Also this could be tweaked to get very close or equal to 8800m GTS and 8700m GT SLI. And I can't stop saying, "in a 14"!

The only thing I don't like, that is only because the rest blows me away. I really don't like the resolution. I am not a fan of the 16:9. I don't just watch movies I use my computer as a computer not a TV. I don't like the shift to the 16:9 standard I far prefer 16:10 always will. Also having had my last notebook 1280X800 WXGA 15.4". My new 14" 1440x900 WXGA+ is sweet. Don't want to go back especially if I even lost the 800.

This is sweet because it gives me a peak into the future graphics power of the 14"s. Will be watching and think they will come out with a similar model but resolution more to my liking.

powerpack, I think you are confusing the 4650 for a 4850, the 4650 from ATI seems to be similar to the 9650GT from Nvidia. But you know a lot more than me, feel free to correct and humiliate me :p

But yah, does seem amazing for a 14"

But yeah, does seem amazing for a 14"Good point but no I am not confusing. The Nvidia 9650m GT pushes 5,000? The HD4650 pushes 7,000? Also that card is easily OC'able likely way over 8,000 3DMark06. That is above an 8800m GTS. And in a 14"?:) That rocks!

If this is irrelevant please delete this post but from reading the forums at NBR, it seems that this laptop was very rushed and isnt the best build quality but I am not sure that these people had very much first hand experience with this lappy.
Overall, I dont think that 15" are designed for serious gamers like the original user assumed. Instead I think they are portable workstations that can play games. In that respect I expect that this laptop is still incredible.

potent I have heard some complaints. Are they true? Are they just the first run and are improvements coming? I don't know but only hope. Also on that 4650 it is ultimately stuck with a 128bit bus so to say is closer to a 9650 is likely correct regardless of 3DMark scores. The 8800m has 256bit bus and well, will always be a superior card. But until they start putting it in 14's I still must have my dreams.

Well, I think that many of those aspects may be true for gamers but the business market is completely different with different needs. Its all about relevance in my opinion. Looks like a fantastic toy but the design does look very.... retro... are those bubbles or something on the purple??

I'm confused  Where do you see purple at on the N81?

You know, it is a scientific fact that women can see and notice up to 12 shades of colors more than a man can. Crazy stuff I learn in marketing and no offense :p but it is a fact

I rarely bother to differentiate between colors but it is perhaps more lilac than purple but still :laugh::laugh:

PS. is the word "colour" english or american? as I always forget, shows up red in this forum anyway :P
