We have opened up Pre-Order for the ASUS W90VP-A1. This will be our first 18" Laptop. It will feature Dual ATI 4870's in Cross Fire. (Link Below) :)
ETA is middle to late March. ASUS is still working out a couple bugs with the Quad Cores and anticipate arrival at this time.

Have heard of nice to see you will be getting.
Justin just a heads up. You will get the question how are 3 RAM slots Dual Channel? I have the answer. Intel Flex Mode. Same as two slots with 1x1GB and 1x2GB physical mismatch. But in this case virtual, 3x2GB. Two slots channel 0 one slot channel 1, 4GB and 2GB. Before they ask? I heard of tri channel? If you have an i7 and the chipset, sure but you don't.
Anyway Justin just practicing my responses. Here is my NBR sticky for anyone not familiar with the terms used, Flex and dual channel. Sorry I can't update it anymore, link (http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=167472).

Are the dual HDD individual controlers like the other ASUS machines or can they be set up in RAID? do they have any ASUS that do RAID?

The bug is they are fine tuning the cooling system to accommodate the Quad Cores. At the present time it is getting warmer then they would like to see it with the Quads.
The lower price has the cash discount applied. (More Info Here (http://www.xoticpc.com/payment-information-ip-14.html)on how to use this discount)

At this time we are unsure if there is a Raid Controller. We received these specs yesterday and expect to get more info as ASUS has it available. We believe this model with also have a Internal TV Tuner, but that is not confirmed yet.
Thank you Powerpack for the information on Dual Channel in 3 Ram Slot configurations. Your post on NBR is very thorough. :)

Wow, an 18 inch lappy! Personally, I'm not crazy about the overall design and the touchpad looks really tiny, but it might just be the picture angle or something. I'm not crazy about the ATI GPUs either, but all that is just my own personal thing.
I think the donkey might be an extra charge. If it doesn't come with a donkey even as an option, maybe it will come with a wagon one can pull to haul it around in or for more money they may offer a cart and a horse.:p:laugh:
An 18 inch lappy would be something to see. Hmm, if we aren't careful somebody might come out with a 37 inch lappy in HD. Yeah, and you'll only be able to get it from Xotic. Custom skinning on a 37 inch lappy?:p
I'm just being out-right silly now.

well the both the specs and looks pretty attractive but lacks of option to upgrade though. Price wise also not too bad but portability wise will be a huge problem though. There will be no laptop bags(trolley type) in the world that can fit in this lappie i believe. So far the biggest can only accomodate 17 inch. Even my sony ar59 series is having problems getting a trolley type laptop bag as the total width is about 19 inch(screen 17''). As for my sager np9262, luckily the total width much smaller although the screen is of same size so still can fit in.:D

I am sure there are bags that will fit this beast.
The Acer 8930 series is also a 18.4" and although the bags are hard to find they do exist :smile2:
Does anyone else think there is a conspiracy to help (geeks) me :p build more muscles??
Seriously though, it does look like an incredible bang for the buck but I am surprised Asus didnt put better CPU's in them. Or at least make a viable relatively cheaper options to do that, because this machine is without a doubt designed for gamers and gamers like big numbers

Hello,
Will you be stocking up on the dual core models as well? I am hesitant to purchase the quads because of the $1,000 jump in price from the 2ghz to the 2.5ghz, however I would want the 2.5 version because the cache is double, and I feel 2ghz would be too slow. But, then that would mean a $3,500 laptop :/

One other thing slightly bothering me is its 6.25 cm thick. Thats...err... three times the thickness of Macbook air, while 2.5 times the thickness of Macbook pro unibody...
I realised this is a extremely exotic laptop granted, even so its usability would be... at least low even for a laptop of this power.
I thought having 18 inch scree allows them to make the laptop thinner, spread the parts over larger area... not only that didn't happen, its thicker than D901, and thats saying something.
When you guys get it, can you measure its thinkness? I'm hoping the 2.5 inch thinkness is wrong/typo, but otherwuse.

~UPDATE~
We will have the W90 available for shipment approximately around the 30th or 31st. Unfortunately the ETA was pushed backed as ASUS made some changes to the bios.

I would rather have a system come out late and right, than on time with known bugs. I'm glad to hear they have a release date set and not just "um.... when we get there"

Are you referring to the release that Bestbuy released? It was so broken they were getting many and serious complaints... At least we know Xotic will look after our interests :laugh:

Unfortunately the 4870's are not available for the Flextronics/OCZ models. The unit will not support them at this time. :(

Any update on the release date? The end of March approacheth... :p
Also, are these going to have a one button factory overclocking option like Asus' G/RoG series?
Thanks! :)

Can't wait til the A1 is ready to ship... Making me CrAzY! Anyway, since I'm going to use this for gaming only (maybe a bluray now & then), could I or Xotic install a T9800 in this baby? Would think the QX9300 would be a waste for games, at least for the next year or so.

W90's hit ASUS last night and are expected to ship to us today! We have a overnight unit that will arrive to us tomorrow. We will be testing and running some benchmarks on it over the new few days. Watch for a thread in our Reviews section with updates as we test the review unit. :)

Bri...I think you could do. I believe it is a no brainer same socket lower TDP. Will Xotic do? Ask the Justin's. Think maybe not as does not look like OEM supported CPU? So warranty considerations and all. On your own I bet you could trade with a T9800 owner. I would consider trading my T9400 OC to 2.85Ghz? Might clock higher with different RAM?:D
I wish you luck. I don't really know the current status of multi threaded games but if and when that Quad would be very nice?
I hate to say, and don't say lightly. But if higher clocked dual core is what you have your heart set on? Have you looked at other options?:)

What I'm looking for is a CPU that I can OC to at least 3.2Ghz and a Blu Ray drive. Like I said, this will be used for gaming 99% of the time and watching a BluRay movie 1%. So I guess if I can OC the QX9300 to at least 3.2Ghz and stay kinda cool (would buy a laptop cooler with this setup) maybe its the way I should go for newer games out later this year.
Or... Get the X1 with the T9600, OC that to 3.2Ghz and just buy the BluRay as an add and maybe save $500 or so and upgrade the CPU in 6 months to the latest/fastest one.

I'm sorry to hear you didn't receive my message. :( I sent you a message back through the forums and also emailed the information to your registered email address. The email was sent to your GMail address on Friday 4/3/2009 at 2:30 PM and the message through the forums was sent a couple minutes before that. Did you receive either one of my messages/emails?
