There was no reason to run crysis at such a high resolution. You should have ran it at 1680x1050 or lower.

^There are many that like to see what the video card is capable of. Those that have support for such a high resolution, test it to see what it can do..

Hey Justin. Sorry if this has been answered before, I haven't been here in a while. Is it possible to upgrade the NP8660 from a 9800 GT to the new GTX 260M? Not that I had my hopes up, just wondering.

So does this mean the new 8662's will be shipping soon? :D

At this time Sager has advised us the GTX 260M is expected to be a drop in for 8660 users. :D

Osco (http://www.xoticpcforums.com/member.php?u=11307) - We started shipping 8662's on Friday from the first shipment. The first shipment has been depleted and awaiting on the 2nd shipment. Sager expects a few more this week and another shipment next week that will fill all open orders.

Cant wait for a full review on this bad boy, these initial #'s are amazing you can fit a QX9300 in these things right? I can only imagine the benchmarks with one of those in it.:notworthy

Man, every time I talk to you it's like Christmas. Terrific news, you have no idea how happy you just made me. Is there some kind of mailing list I can get on to tell me when this will be available, or do we have an estimate?

Justin I cannot read those crysis numbers at all does it say 1920x1200 medium settings is 39fps or 29fps?

Osco
04-08-2009, 10:24 AM
Yeah, for some reason the smaller numbers are a little hard to read on those attachments.

After shipments for the new 8662 with the GTX 260M are completed, then individual GTX 260M cards will be up for sale. Feel free to contact us again towards the later part of April. We will have more information at that time. :)

Great news, looking forward to getting my laptop shipped. :D

If possible can you post larger versions of those images where the text is viewable, or even post another set ran with the more common 4Gb configuration of ram. :D

Is it worth getting the higher screen resolution in a 15.4" laptop?
1920x1200 seems a little overkill ( to me) + you would get better FPS with the lower res screen in gaming.
Is there any difference besides the screen resolution offered?

Halaster
04-09-2009, 04:14 AM
There can also be a difference in preferred screen type.
A lot of times the 1680x1050 will be glossy and the 1920x1200 will be matte.

Beyond that its just a resolution upgrade, which as you said, will tax the video card more for gaming.
I had a 1920x1200 15.4 dell XPS around 4 years ago and it was nice to have the extra room to work with that the resolution provides, but this time around with my new laptop I am just going with the 1680x1050, for the better gaming performance. On 15.4 running games at 1920x1200 wont provide much noteciable difference compared to 1680x1050. The difference is much more noticeable when connected to large screens such as 52" TVs or 24" monitors.

I must be doing something wrong. My 3DMark06 score was only 5665. :(
Does running Vista vs. XP really make that much of a difference??

Don't bench unless plugged in? You are doing something wrong. Very easy fix? If plugged in your power mode is bad. Post back?

Just in case anyone is curious, here are my benchmark results.
(should I have started a new thread for this?)

3dMark06: 10,443
PCMark05: 7,528
wPrime (32M): 48.921s
wPrime (1024M): 1542.937s
HDTune:HDTune Screenshot (http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h186/ovreagr/HDTune.jpg)

"Interesting" to note... the HDD reached 55 degrees while running the HDTune benchmark. It also started off at 51 degrees.
Somehow, that doesn't seem right. All testing was done on the kitchen table with back raised about an inch. Should I be worried?

If it's possible for anyone to benchmark Empire Total War?

has anyone tested this laptop under hours of extreme gaming? Main thing i'm concerned about is overheating. I heard the older 8660 with the gtx overheated after a few hours, and the 260m is designed for 17'' laptops. Don't want it being too hot to touch after 3 or 4 hours of FEAR2 multi player.

If things go well i'll be pre-ordering one 2morrow.

I don't believe the GTX was a supported option under the 8660, was it? In any case, I got my 8660 while it was still being shipped with the GT, which I believe is a slightly hotter running card than the GTS (though not by much). I have never had problems with overheating. In fact, it hasn't even come close. As long as it has good ventilation, it stays extremely cool, even while gaming. Don't rest it on a carpet or blanket.

Just ordered the 8662, hopefully I'll get it sometime this week. I'll probably be testing COD4, left4dead, and FEAR2 on it with max resolution/settings n see what kinda rates i get/if it heats up.

Is the T9800 going to produce a notable difference in fps/gaming power over the Q9000? ie: is the $190 extra worth it?

Halaster
04-22-2009, 04:23 PM
Depending on what you are playing it will make a difference, because its almost 1ghz higher, but in general your video card is going to be your limiting factor.

Also, in general for gaming the T9550 will produce better results in gaming as well than the Q9000 since very very few things are actually optimized for quad-core.

I was wondering, but does anyone know what particular memory modules are used, in terms of the brand and cas latency? Is it possible if someone posts cpu-z showing the memory specs and info? Also, what is the cache size for the 250gb hard drives used for the np8662. I'm going to assume most of the np8662 models contain Hitachi branded hard drives.
