So this morning after our first break, and before heading out into the field in a couple to do more surveying, our supervisor tells 5 of us that starting next week our hours will be cut to part time only due to Verizon cancelling some of the jobs they had scheduled.
So now I'm sitting here trying to figure out how I'm going to make ends meet.
Sent 2 messages into Xotic to cancel my order now, which has me rather upset, but I can't justify a new laptop when I'm not working full time. :(
I hate this economy.
Wish me luck, I'm going to need it.

So sorry to hear that. I sure hope you find some work to fill in the gaps in the meantime.
I guess the silver lining is that delaying your laptop order for weeks or months will likely result in either a lower price or better/faster components (or both)...
Wish you the best!

Thanks for the support, it's nice to have something positive to read right now.
Been sitting here at home since I got out of work trying to go over all our finances and get a grip on things.
Of course it would figure this is the very day my 8662 shipped from Xotic and they are trying to get UPS to return it to them now, since I can't justify the order at this time.
The person who works with me on the New Jersey FIOS layout (the Justin I work with), said he heard the owner talking to our Verizon rep about finishing the Woodbridge area rather than leaving it incomplete to finish later on (and at a greater expense). If we got that then we'd be set on hours for a while longer at least, and maybe long enough that things will settle out financially at the Verizon FIOS planning HQ.
Just too many things up in the air at the moment. If we get the Woodbridge jobs to finish, I'd almost consider keeping the laptop even knowing I may end up short on hours later. I could likely have it paid off by then, but I think the wise move is to conserve every penny I can at the moment, knowing that I still might end up on short hours even in the best circumstances at the moment.
Feels like my head is going to explode right now. Already up to 4 Excedrine Tension Headache pills over the last 8 hours. :(
Sorry for the rambling, just nerved up to hell and unsure of a lot. We figured we didn't have to worry about losing hours or jobs where I am because usually companies like Verizon or Comcast never stop expanding, but I guess maybe Verizon is hurting more than they are letting on in the public eye?
Thanks again guys. I'll still be here offering help and advice as I can. Maybe one of you will be lucky enough to end up with the very machine that was going to be my new toy. ;)

Sorry to hear! I am hanging in there. I am affected by this economy also. So many of us are. And sad the way if you don't have money then Xotic can't make money. Then they spend less and it goes on and on. We all are connected. It really trickles down. I think some variation of the "velocity of money". And when there ain't none effects a lot more than just one person. Hang in there!

I feel for you. though I live in a bubble inside a bubble when it comes to the economy, there is always that nagging feeling in the back of all of our minds. I work for a governor who would rather loose 9000 of his employees than 3000 of his consultants, go figure.
Hope things with the Woodbridge thing goes through!
