I've been looking for some portable speakers for my Sager notebook. Problem is when gaming you can't easily adjust the volume over the fans without exiting the game. My requirement was; They need to be powered due to wanting some volume control, they need to be small and portable enough to fit in my notebook bag, and they should be low cost. I found the solution with the Altec Lansing BX1220, they are usb powered, have a nice volume control and they are less than $15! My initial impression is they look more expensive than they really are. I plugged them in through the headphone jack and played some music through them while adjusting the Realtek HD Audio Manager. I found using "Living room" for my environment, and "Rock" for my equalizer gave the best overall initial sound quality. Granted these don't even compare in to my Bose desktop speakers, but they are a huge improvement over notebook speakers, and now I can adjust the volume whenever needed!

Happy you found them as I was going to suggest a Rheostat? And that involves cutting?

Thanks powerpack, I was actually thinking the same. but for under $15. these should work out nicely without the cutting, spicing and soldering. A nice pair of headphones would also do the job, but I don't always like being turned off from the outside world and don't need my wife thinking I'm ignoring her completely, lol.
