I'd offer $1,500.00. I thought you upgraded it to windows 7 though? How is the overheating issues going, do you still have issues with the dvd player when the laptop gets too hot? Just a note, you can now get this laptop for $2000.

I'm not really interested in a bidding war, especially when it involves $75 and $25 dollar increments. As I said, I can just get it for $2000 and not worry about the service contract transferring or any other inherent issues that comes with purchasing something used. Btw, you misspelled Edmonton.

Wow! Put on the brakes! What am I missing how does anyone get $2000 new price? I just configed $2599. Not $2000. Not that this will change the actual sale price but no one is getting this new for $2000 for what that matters.
Any serious buyer would have to consider $2000 a great buy on this. If warranty can transfer and support $500 off for 3 month old compter is a significant savings with little down side. It is $600 off new is a 30% discount. I mean yea I will give you $1000 but I am not a serious buyer. If you wanted I think you could get more than $2000. I mean $2200 is a $400 discount and $400 is not chump change.

So what are you saying?
powerpack
12-06-2009, 04:43 PM
So what are you saying?I am saying someone offering you $1700 for a 3 month old system that would cost them $2600 is too good of a deal for them. Almost $1000 off? I know notebooks value drops fast. But this is early in it's warranty and life cycle. It is current top of the line tech. It has not been eclipsed by any other yet. $2000 to $2200 is a great buy for a serious buyer $1700 is a great deal but not for you. Your market should be a buyer who has the budget and is considering new. But tempted by the savings. Not someone who is not capable of buying because of budget.
What is your time frame for needing school money? If tomorrow then yea you must sell short. But $1700 is still a lot. If you have one month I might consider at $2000 if I can get the money. I would hope you can find better offers. If your system has zero dead pixels that is a plus. You have done a test that is similar to what is offered by Sager for $200. That is value my friend.
A serious buyer of a 9280 that will only lose 3 months of warranty which with the savings could more than upgrade warranty for less than total savings. Would need to consider yours.
I know it does not have full value. If it was 1 year old and eclipsed by another model then yea $1000 loss is fair. Yours is neither.
Hang in there and also look at other places to post. As I said I am not really in the market but for $2000 if I had that is one hell of a price. I think $2000 is on the low side and if you wait you could get that or more.
Just my thoughts.
Edit: What am I saying? That the $2000 new number is false and wrong. Whoever threw that out is not being honest. However it affects your value/price. It is wrong and should be disregarded. Also consider if it was correct poster was willing to buy for $300 less? So if real price is $2600 then should $2300 not be the sale price? I mean if all of us are being honest?

End of next monthI think you should wait it out you can get better than $1700. You do mean 1/10? Have all packaging and included items. Mention the extras. Mention any issue just be honest. Your machine has greater value than you think. If you want to sell short that is your right. If you want to sell to the first offer, your right. I was just pointing out factual incorrect statements. I hope I helped if not sorry.
Best of luck.

I don't want to hop in the middle of this, but it seems to me that you are a little out of line Powerpack. I know your intentions are good and your advice is valued on these forums, but I don't think you should put the brakes on a deal that has already been verbalized. The OP knows what was paid for the laptop and accepted an offer.
I have no dog in this fight and I actually agree with your assessment of the situation, but an offer was made and agreed upon. For you to step in and "veto" the deal just doesn't seem like something that you should be doing, especially since no other offers are on the table. I am a very big fan of the free market and this sort of price regulation just rubbed me the wrong way.
The buyer is assuming quite a few risks in the deal. IMO, used computers and computer parts have a fraction of thier original value. Even if a warranty is transfered, this could still be a risky situation for the buyer.

I wouldn't be so quick to attack powerpack. He was mostly pointing out that the potential buyer was being shady by posting a false value. I think it's nice that this is the kind of community where people would be so helpful as to point out something like this. Yeah, they made a "deal" but it was based on false information and manipulation.

I wasn't "attacking" Powerpack. I was simply pointing out my feelings about him interjecting in a deal that he wasn't involved with. It's not like we are at a yard sale and the buyer was trying to trick a grandmother out of her grandson's laptop. We are on Xoticpc's forums where finding the price of the laptop is as simple as clicking the top of the screen. The seller knows exactly what was paid for the laptop and how old it is. He agreed on a price with the buyer. I doubt seriously if the buyer was trying to "manipulate" anyone. I think they were both guilty of not being fully informed. So, who are we to stop a deal from going down? That is all.
Let me repeat that I agree with Powerpack on the deal. I knew I probably shouldn't have said anything in the first place. I am sorry Powerpack if this came across as an attack because that is certainly not what I was trying to do to you. I know you were looking out for the seller.
Hopefully the seller will find another buyer now.

I'm not at all misinformed nor do I need to manipulate anyone. I stated everything openly on a forum and did not send this via a PM. Per Jdorty's post on this very forum...
$2000, shipping included! I was pretty excited about the price, and it was just bought at the end of August, only light usage.
Edit: Bought from her, xoticpc, btw.
Just made the transaction for my used NP9280! Should be here in a few days =]

He bought a four month old slightly better version with shipping included that will instead cost me 1700 plus around 200 shipping for a 6 month old laptop. I actually prefer Jdortys build and didn't notice anyone crying over the price being so misleading there. It's sad to see someone spout off their opinions about the (almost nonexistent)used laptop market pricing guidelines and yet post nothing of substance to back up their claims. I did my research and found several formulas that describe the reality of the market well enough. If you buy something "new", and sell it soon after, you will lose your ass. In fact most laptops loose about half their value every 6 months. Bottom line, in an open forum where someone is asking for an offer, money talks. The wall of txt will not pay the bills.
All ranting aside, I sent him the cash via paypal and hope to see the laptop in a week or so. Waiting on the Tracking number now.

You were implying you could get it new at that price don't try to flip the script. The transaction is between the buyer and seller yes, but I don't see anything wrong with powerpack trying to make things right in this case. Anyhow, you bargained the price down the way you wanted so congrats.

Wow Dun! Geese I am so sorry for commenting on an open forum about a clear misstatement of fact. I will in the future try and curtail my postings of opinions and thoughts on open forums.
Your belief in the sanctity of the free market and private transactions being mutually inclusive is flawed. The free market relies on a certain transparency and openness. What you seem to think is this grand "free market" is anything but.
Dun if devil had made an offer without laying out the incorrect foundation for price/value I likely would not of commented. Regardless of what the offer was. In other words if he had offered $150 I would of said nothing. But the misstatement of fact was what drew me in. If you for yourself and your own personal conduct disagree, cool. But you to tell me how I should conduct myself and address my own conscience is a far greater transgression than the one you incorrectly accuse me of.
You accuse me of not minding my own business. I accuse you of dictating my conduct. But hey if you believe in the free market but not personal freedom I can see how that is not in conflict.
Devil I really ascribe no motive to your posting. I didn't from my first read. I basically thought you made a mistake. Nothing more nothing less. Your offer has validity and if that is the price you are willing to pay so be it. I just wanted to point out a misstatement and then I offered opinion. Don't give me great authority as Dun has. I am not a regulating body or official government price setter. I am not in any way anti free market.
Dun can a market without openness truly be free?

I'm not ripping you off Ezekial. I was trying to swap the credit card out that was used. I told you when I sent the cash that it came out of the wrong account and I would need to fix it. Paypal said they couldn't fix it when I called them (was on hold forever due to bad weather preventing their callers from getting to work). Call me!
Sheesh. So much mistrust these days. Anyone notice how few used laptops gets sold on this forum. I looked at just the first few pages and it was pretty depressing. Either the person selling refuses to believe the value of their merchandise dropped that quickly or there just isn't enough trust between two people that have never met. On second thought I can see the later point. It's still kinda sad though.

so, the short version of all this is what? is the laptop still up for sale? if so, then how much? let me know, i'm interested in a laptop. i've been waiting for apple to come out with their upcoming version the macbook pro 17" with the I7 processor, but man, they sure are pricey. your 9280 would be a great machine for me though. i really like the mac o.s. in my imac, it's a screamer, but i suppose anything would be a screamer compared to my old junk hp i used up until i got the imac.

Sup - Nice price for a buyer for sure. I just ordered mine and have almost $3600 bucks invested. However, almost $200 is for overnight shipping and I have the blu-ray. Anyhoo, good luck on the sale.
