first, marry x-mas to you all.

Now, I know that shopping "hot season" has passed, but are there any new laptop models that we're waiting for? Like a 8970 with SLI or G51 with a better CPU?

Any word of new hardware that's supposed to be released? Like new gen CPU/GPU or SSDs?

I'd wait to see whats announced Janurary 7-10th at the Consumer-Electronic-Show which usually announce whats coming out within the next year. Thats usually when all the ODMs announce new tech (I'm expecting lots of nvidia 300 series to be anounced)

I just ordered the Asus G51 JX-A1, which is somewhat new as it is replacing the J-A1 model. I think they are still on pre order so does that count as new?

Btw, first post here, Happy new year

I say yea it counts on site 12/22/09 none have shipped. Yea thats new. Did you see the 17.3" version they listed yesterday? I am curious about the GTS 360m on the one you ordered. Want to see how well it does.

Welcome to Xotic and Happy New Year.

I ordered before I saw the larger version but I am replacing an elderly and overweight XPS M170 so I doubt I would have been tempted.
I am looking forward to seeing the GTS 360, not sure how it compares to the 260 in the G51J-A1. gonna be better than my Dell anyway. Lighter too.

I'm assuming the 360 is meant to be a competitor for the 5870. It's kind of a crapshoot on where they're going to end up with the ATI using DDR5 and running DX11.

I'd keep an eye out on http://www.notebookcheck.net/ for benchmarks and scoring between the two as they're generally pretty quick to get things tested and posted and do a good job of explaining the strengths and weaknesses of every card.

I know someone in the industry who tells me that there will be tons of i3 and i5-based laptops coming out this month and next. Unless this is common knowledge?

I'm in the market for a new laptop and my source says I would be crazy not to wait for the new offerings, as the i-series is such a huge improvement from Core 2 Duo.

First post, BTW.

Any infor on how the GTS360 compares to the GTX260M? I was just about to order the J1 when i got hit in the face with "item not found" message. I nearly cried. Seriously.

@ubehebe: your industry insider is most likely refering to the Consumer Electronic Show or CES which starts Jan 7th to I beleive the 12th. This is where most major manufacturers announce there new and upcoming products for the upcoming year. Sony, Levono, MSI, Compel, Clevo, Intel, nVidia, ATI/AMD are all making big changes at the show (Last years big feature was the ION platform and the CULV processors which changed netbooks forever) This year Intel has a whole new lineup for there mobile platform, nVidia is announcing the 300 series and ATI/AMD has fusion coming out along with a few new high end graphics cards. starting thursday, keep checking the tech blogs or just google news search "CES 2010" or "CES" to see whats coming up.

@Esso, a great place to find info on graphics cards is over at notebookcheck.net (http://www.notebookcheck.net/Comparison-of-Graphic-Cards.130.0.html) from what leaked info is avalible it seems the GTS 360m is a die-shrink of the 9800m GT which is a rebrand of the 8800m GTX, the GTX 260m is a die-shrink of the 9800m GTX. I'd say the GTX 260m will probably be around 10-30% faster than the GTS 360m depending on the application.

hope that helps :)

Just pre-ordered Asus G73JH-A1. Very impressed with its ATI HD5870 GDDR5, and its i7 as well. and 8GB DDR3 too! http://www.serveimage.com/v2/5/smiley.gif

@Robamb
Yes, it sure does help. Thank you.

Thanks Ray for pointing out the G73JH for me, it seems like a sweet deal! I too would like additional information about this model and its performance.
