I haven't technically gotten it yet, but it'll be arriving on Monday assuming UPS doesn't tank in transit.

Now, I have to admit.... I'm a novice at overclocking and all that jazz. Any helpful pointers or tips or forums/guides to offer up to minimize the searching part of research? Check the sig for the specific processor and whatnot. Thanks in advance.

NBR while not about that has much traffic. I can't help you there as the unjust ban hammer was dropped on me. But overall they get many posters. OCN is about OC'ing but they act like OC'ing a notebook is and not to offend as they do not. Akin to raping the virgin Mary while at the same time stressing their desktops to only what I can imagine would cause Joseph to have pause even sitting down for a week.

The problems with OC an i7 is the thermal constraints as they relate to the turbo boost. If you OC you change the thermal dynamic. Doing this can/will prevent Turbo boost. What is your usage? For some not an issue for others yes an issue.

I do not have i7 yet so do not know from doing. But from desktop OC gets rid of Turbo Boost.

You are too early in the game unless you wanna do?

The two sites I mentioned are good as one is dedicated to OC (but idiots on notebooks) and the other has high traffic. But if you really want thoughtful intelligent conversation on the what's/why's/how's go to NBF, Notebookforums.com.

Thankya much. I'm just really interested in experimenting without a real -need- to. I can run more than I used to, which was a lot, on this new one so I should be golden. It's just a matter of waiting for down the road is new stuff's released for better components unreleased right now.

I just hafta deal with UPS now. They're bein' gits and even with an ID card that lists the address they're shipping to, I can't drive the 5 miles to the distribution center to get it.... I hafto drive the 35 miles home to get it and see...god forbid...the 'rents. They can't do anything without the shipper's something or another or whatnot and if I got Xotic to tell them to stop being dumb, they wouldn't process that request 'till Monday anyway.

On the UPS thing? Been a while I think if they make an attempt then you can call and pick up. I did it like 6 years ago. Was not home.

But go see the rents.

Whelp, I've got it. All's up and running aside from a few little things I can't figure out. I'm not seeing a driver to control this little heat-sensitive ECO button above my keyboard. It's supposed to change between power settings and whatnot, but it doesn't even bother to light up when I poke at it. I also can't for the life of me figure out how to set up the P1 heat-button which is a customizable one to open this that or the other. Other than that, though.... Extremely happy with it. I'm going to see how well I can run WIC on DX10 soon.

Hi I.C.

I have been ruminating awhile on which laptop to go with. I have been interested in the 1656, but I had questions about its build quality, keyboard layout and feel.

So can you tell me your impressions? Everyone on the forums seems really interested in the G73 but that doesn't seem to be for me.

Did you get your questions resolved from your post?

Thanks
IshmaelDB
