A few days ago Anandtech released their review for the G73JH-A2 and I figured I would share it with others to see some unbiased testing and comparison of the laptop and how it stacks up against Sager (Clevo) models.
If you don't feel like reading the whole article I will sum it up right here.
"In short, for mobile gamers it tops our current list of recommendations, and we're pleased to award the ASUS G73JH-A2 our Gold Editors' Choice award."

I'm more a fan of [H] than of Anandtech, but great review nonetheless!

[H] isnt really a product review site more of a news site that does somewhat random reviews on random products. Anandtech is what Toms Hardware was before it turned into a Nvidia/Intel fansite.
I havent found any site that offers such in depth reviews backed up with a massive testing suite and product comparisons as Anandtech. But [H] does give some decent non-mainstream information.

The only problem I have with this review, which is really more of a statement than a complaint, is that they are a bit late to the party. This same basic review has been done already by a number of other sites and I just don't see much new in this one.

I noticed that it used a clevo with nvidia card, why not get one with the 5870 in it and compare it head to head? and the n61 it used is last years, I think, because it comes with the 5730, now, like mine, I didn't really see anything that I haven't seen in other reviews there.

I think they had to come out of pocket for a G73 and were probably subjected to the insane pre-order list like everyone else. I didnt say they really provided much new information, but is it nice to see graphs with their findings and a comparison to other laptops in the same "weight class" as it were. IMO just an easy reference without needing to go to multiple sites to get the same info.

You also need to understand that that can't and don't test EVERY single laptop or component on the market, if they did they would be reviewing products 4 years old.
As I said, its good information, just presented so you don't have to visit several sites for the same info.

[H] does tons of reviews, although you are correct in that it is primarily a news site. They don't really do gadget/laptop reviews either just straight up desktop hardware. But I find [H] to be the most unbiased out there. Anandtech is probably my second favorite, though.
And agreed on the Toms statement.. Blegh.

not sure how u even boost im guessing there is a button on the keyboard to do so?

the turbo boosting is done by CPU itself for the most part as far as I understand quad core processing., there's no button.

Correct, it is all done automatically, but there is an "Off/On" switch in the BIOS if for some reason you wanted to disable it.

Also on the Turbo boost if a thermal profile is exceeded regardless of the number of cores being used it will not boost. This was very clearly explained to OEM's. I have not heard the G73 has any issues. But what that means to poster who mentioned heat is it is designed to not heat with out regard. It is not like OC'ing yourself. The thermal conditions have been designed by Intel. Enjoy the boost without guilt or worry.
FS I like Anandtech very much. I did not know Tom' was a tool for Nvidia and Intel. Not saying I know these things. I will now start to pay attention.
But am I reading wrong? Why do they keep talking about their disappointment about BR. Talk about getting your own? Keep talking as if BR might be offered in a model soon. This has a date of 4/17/10. That kind of stuff scares the hell out of me. It is the A1 and was offered 1st I believe! Those comments were on the last page.
I am sure I will enjoy the complete read in a little while.

They might have wrote portions of the article prior to receiving their A2, I noticed that too, but often times you write up what you know about the product then just fill in the blanks later so you can print it faster.
As for Tom's they used to be just as good as Anandtech but they Toms slowly became corrupted by the sway (and probably swag) of Intel and Nvidia and pretty soon they started writing heavily biased articles favoring those two and omitting evidence that an ATI/AMD product was better.
This was a few years ago and I can tell you it was a pretty big deal to those that followed them, myself included, and they lost a large chunk of their readers. But now since that is long past I'm sure readers like yourself never knew about it, I'm not saying they report bad information, but they have a tendency to write in a manner that promotes what they want rather than what the testing proves.
Anandtech has never given me, or anyone I've seen the indication that they provide biased results. Often (almost all) post graphs comparing any similar product they have tested with the one being reviewed to see how it stacks up to the competition. I am a fanboy of certain products but I never want to be lied to and end up buying an inferior product, my loyalty only goes so far... I always want the best!
And if you follow Anandtech very much, you should know they don't just throw out their Editor Awards to just anything, so I take great pride that I made the choice to get a G73, then to read about Anand's Award makes it doubly so.

Anandtech is a great but in this particular case, a little late to the party IMO.

The middle button on top right side of keyboard is for turbo boost. I have played around with it, I just keep it on, as it doesn't get hot. The highest I've ever seen my core/cores up to was 2.87. I'm not sure whether it only does 1 core or all 4?

that is for one core, 4 cores runs at 1.6.
