I purchased a NP8662 last year and it is an awesome machine. (I will also likely soon be helping my brother with a purchase of a MSI GX640 for his birthday coming up.)

I will soon be in the market for a new desktop computer... back last June when I ordered my machine there was talk that Xotic was going to be rolling out desktops again, but I have yet to see anything come of that. I'd really prefer to buy from Xotic. Does Xotic currently have any plans to offer desktops in the near future?

If not, what are some of the best places to purchase custom built desktops at a decent price? I've checked newegg and ibuypower and it seems that the reason they are inexpensive is because they are built as cheaply as an alienware. Lately I have been looking at Stealthmachines and Widowpc... anyone have any experience with these companies?

I have no inside knowledge on Xotic building desktops yet. I can guess current orders are keeping anything new from being done at this time. They are changing locations and maybe this will give them the space needed?

As you said there was serious talk in the past. If Xotic does not start making within your time frame I recommend you buy the components and build yourself. It is like Lego's with electricity. Not hard to do and many sites that can give help. overclockers.net is one that could provide much help.

If you really aren't comfortable building it yourself, which would be the preferred method of getting a custom built PC, you can look at this site (http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/) they have some nice pre-configured gaming desktops and a customization sheet for them.
