Cooling Pad

Hi, I would like to know if the cooling pad that is available for some notebooks is actually keeping a lower temperature of the system, because a lot of my friends that have one , say it's useless.
Is it? :(

The cooling pad help the laptop "breathe" better. They are effective and help with overall cooling of the machine
