Crysis is an intense game. I think that they are a bit off though. I'm running it at full resolution and (almost) maxed settings without a hitch. They might be getting lower fps but my eye isn't seeing a problem.

That does seem a little odd to me too. My old outdated laptop is able to play Crysis at mostly high settings in DX10 at full resolution (low AA) with it rarely dipping below ~25fps. I would assume the G73 rips that game up in comparison though?

30fps is pretty good, IMO. We're used to 24fps in movie theaters. There's a lot of debate about what is the best but I'm cool w/30.
I'll have to run FRAPS tonight to get some hard numbers. I don't know if the SSD is helping my performance in any way but we shall see....

when nothign around i get high 30s it drops to as low as teens with lots of stuff going on though
cant belive what a system hog this is..
i want crysis 2 on pc but not sure . might get it for 360 if performance is really bad again.. though i take it crysis 2 should run better on pc considering its an optimized engine and if consoles can do it so can pc.. i heard much more interior environments and not as expansive as pt 1 so should improve fps issue on pc

Don't quote me but I seem to remember hearing Crysis 2 is going to be optimized much more allowing higher fps at better quality levels. It always seemed to me like Crysis wasn't very well optimized since it was so ahead of its time in graphics quality.

I read the same. There has been a major focus to maintain high quality but also allow it to run better and be playable on machines that don't qualify as being the cream of the crop.
It's the only sensible thing to do because while it is cool to have really beautiful games, it's not really good for profit margins if you have something that only a small percentage can actually play.

I can't take a review seriously that has 3 categories performance 9/10, features 9/10 and value 4/10 then gives overall 6/10? I mean basic math is 7/10 and that value score is just insane. Unless the UK pricing is insane here in the States 4/10 is BS.
I get 15/16fps avg 9:00am no AA very high native resolution.

i agree that does seem insane, i think part of the problem though is that they weren't comparing it value wise to other gaming laptops. as someone said when you compare value between gaming laptops and desktops desktops will always come out on top, but its not viable for everyone (myself included). I think the UK prices are a bit outrageous too compared to US prices (at least on this machine).

I think the UK price is a lot more when converted to US dollars, same goes for euros...so have to take that review with a grain of salt. I think that is why we have a good number of international orders.

think i found the sweet spot for crysis and the laptop
though i had it crash yesterday not sure why
max resolution, everything on high (cept for shadows on med). no AA and it runs 30-40 fps. with very few dips into the teens and once single digit as it loaded a new area...

7.33/10 should be their score, to be mathematically correct.
I'm not sure how they calculated the value, though, and their presumption that the model they received (which is basically a stock model of the A1) "in this configuration, the G73 just isn’t a sensible purchase" is wildly asserted, without much reinforcement besides the fact that they didn't receive a dual-core model and that the stock model was the only one available for purchase in the UK, which alone doesn't appear to be a basis for denouncing the high-end configuration of the G73.
Seems more like they just didn't like the laptop and wanted some way to justify that, rather than concluding the opinion of the laptop based on their findings.

I've got a scissors that can cut a penny! :p
Hey, if figure skating judges can use decimal scores, so can technology judges.

I think that it has to do with the value of the unit over in the UK. In the UK it is quite a bit more expensive than here. So instead of averaging the scores they marked it down more for being not as good of a value for the money there. Right or wrong its their review and I don't usually put too much stock in the numbers they use, but I do like to read the meat of the review to see if they have good insight.
