Will Xoticpc be offering the GTX480m card as an user upgrade to those who already own the Sager 9280??

I believe they will as they sell those with the "user upgradeable" when you bought. The time frame is the greater question. They just came out and the new sales get first dibs.

As with all things Xotic and internal to their business. Calling them is the best and safest path. I am only basing on past experience, I could be wrong.

Way more than it is worth. That said no one knows for sure, but 800+ is a good estimate I think.

800+ sounds about right...since the upgrade is 550...that is 550 on top of what a 285 would cost.

Hmm that is a good question on what the price to upgrade would be. I cannot find anything online to see who sells them or how much they will be yet.

But I will do what Powerpack said and call Xotic tomorrow, plus I want to see how much it would cost to go from 6GB ram to 12GM ram lol.

I saw the 2gb version of the 480m going for $920 usd. Seems like allot of money for a mobile gpu. I can buy an sli system for my desktop for that price (gtx 480). Anyhoo, they are out in the wild.

Edit - Spoke with a Sager rep and was given a verbal price of $870 (includes heat-sink) for the 480m and another $585 to upgrade from 6gb to 12gb ram.

Any update on this? I also have a 280m that I'd like to bump to 480m, and I'd bet price has come down since this top was posted. Anyone have info and/or experience with buying a 480m off the shelf for a do-it-yourself upgrade? Was any bios update needed?

After digging, I've discovered that Xotic (and presumably others) is charging $895 for the upgrade kit to bring your "fully upgradeable laptop" up to the 480m. Without pulling punches, that's ridiculous.

They're either going to have to substantially drop that price soon or they're going to be stuck sitting on a whole bunch of outdated GPUs. I'll look to a 3rd party and/or wait a bit longer. Sure does make me question gaming laptop upgradeability claims now, though. Oh you can... Just have to be independently wealthy I guess due to the monopoly on system-specific hardware.
