View Full Version : No port multiplier with E-Sata??

Hi there, I've got a 9280 and finally decided to pull the 2 old hard drives out of my desktop and throw them into a BlacX Duet docking station. I connected it to the E-sata port on the 9280 and could only detect 1 of the 2 drives. I then read how an E-sata port has to support a 'port multiplier' for multiple drives to work.

Did Sager build a lappy with a substandard E-sata port, even though they overkilled in other design areas of this system?

This would be a question that you'd want to direct to the technical support department at 1-800-741-2219 for clarification on.

Thanks. I sent them an email and will post their reply. Not sure how many folks really care about their eSATA port, but more and more people are using external devices, and this is a significant design limitation if true.

"Hi, the e-SATA port on Sager Computer does not support Port Multiplier."

There you have it.

Maybe this first item (http://www.sataport.com/) is the solution for you? I know it is one more piece in the mix, but it might be worth it.

Hmm... Very nice, but a bit pricey. Don't need 5 ports just yet, but if they made a 2 or 3 port splitter, I'd be all over it. Thanks for the post!
