Hey...Joseph Lee is an amazing sales/tech person. I am certian you are not paying him enough! :-)
It is good to find someone that knows a product line, can steer a customer in a good direction, and answer all the questions.
Ask him about my PCTorque "experience!"

We are kinda like a Ferrari owner's club!
You know, at least I embrace the geek in me in finding a thrill in this monster technology. Other mainline makers haven't even mentions USB 3.0 as a build option yet. Thank you XOTICpc!
Jingerlynn- what are your build specs?
powerpack

On USB 3.0 it is already out there, Asus offers just not on their main gaming rig. I think even DeLL and others, not sure.
But on your club being like a Ferrari yes, but? Maybe the SSC Ultimate Aero (http://www.thesupercars.org/ssc-aero/2009-ssc-ultimate-aero/), or the Bugatti Veyron (http://www.thesupercars.org/bugatti/bugatti-veyron/) owners club. The Ferrari Enzo (http://www.thesupercars.org/ferrari/ferrari-enzo/) was number 6 on the list I saw. I think you guys are better than 6?;):D
Nice machine if you have the funds.

Except that Mini PCI Express is 5 Gbps (http://www.dell.com/content/topics/global.aspx/vectors/en/2004_pciexpress?c=us&l=en) (assuming it is only an x1 link too) and USB 3.0 is 4.8 Gbps (http://www.everythingusb.com/superspeed-usb.html#1) so you will get no slowdown via the Mini PCI Express card.

PS i had to sell my Enzo to afford this thing (I kept the Z4 convertible though, is that wrong?), with all the bells and whistles, it totalled out around $4200. If it gets me through 3 years, i will be happy as that works out to about $120/month. In other words, about a cup of starbucks everyday.
Looking forward to trying it out as a home theater type deal as i got a decent projector for work purposes and the creative wireless card for some thumping speakers. I dont have the time or energy to screw around with running/hiding wires.
I will definitely post a review, and possibly some benchmarks if i have the time.

Well, I been tinkering on this baby for a few hours now. I loaded up Eveonline on the 24" 1900x1200, settings maxed out. On the 1900x1080 laptop screen, i am watching Braveheart.
The fans are almost inaudible, although they did spool up a little for the benchmark test. It is quieter than the old Dell overall, which was one the quietest at the time. The heat at the back can hardly be even described as lukewarm.
So, as i am doing the boring data transfer routine, i downloaded 3dvantage/3dmark06. I ran the 3dmark06 - you get one result for free. I will run the 3d Vantage later, same type of deal on the free trial.
On the old Dell 3d Mark06 was around 4000, on the test I ran i got 16,146. This was on the default setting you can do for the trial 1280x1024. At around 4x faster, i am pretty pleased lol.
This is pretty much right online with the article Powerpack posted on another thread (below). The chart was done on the 9285 with an I7-940 desktop processor. I am powering two screens (not cloned) with the different and maxed resolutions during the test, not sure if that has an impact or not.
After using it for about four hours now - i am pretty damn happy. The windows boot time is ridiculously fast w/ the solid state drive. I will post more on it after using it a few days.
I will say the 6300 wireless is significantly faster with my router - excellent call on that (dont remem who suggested that, it was in one of the threads).

Ok- played with it for about a week. This is ONE great machine. Amazing. My only "complaint" is that I think the touch pad is a little lame- no scrolling or tap functions (the scrolling bar to the right of a touch pad, and the ability to tap upper left and right for mouse clicks).
That said- I use it with a wireless mouse anyways.
The only thing that "pulls down" my WEI is the hard drives at they pull it to 5.8. SSD would have improved this score. Everything else is a 7.4 or above.
Quiet, powerful, and really nice to look at!

Called Sager-
It does have scrolling. Just a different variety. It actually supports multi-gesture movements much like an IPad or TouchSmart. THIS should be mentioned in the marketing! Very important "up scale" feature!:smile2:

No laptop has an HDMI Inputs at this point so plugging in your PS3 to the laptop is not an option.
Sager is more expensive than Xotic from what I have seen on their own laptops.

Thats a first from Sager, I wonder why they aren't including it on other models? Can anyone verify that you can actually hook up a xbox360 or ps3 and view it on the laptop? Is there a way for non 8120 owners to do the same with an express card or something?

The laptop is brand new. That is why you cant find anything on it. And we said that you can use expresscard USB3.0 which is why not having it integrated isnt a dealbreaker. USB3.0 isn't even hardly utilized yet.

Looks kind of laggy. I dunno though hard to tell. That is the first time I noticed the HDMI input on the 8120. I am not surprised it isn't on many of their other machines, it doesn't seem like a feature a massive amount of people want. Most people want to be able to use outputs to a bigger screen. That and 3 monitors that they didn't equip their machines with the ATi to handle oddly.

Im slightly confused about something that maybe someone can help me out with. On all the descriptions of the 8850 including the tech specs, it says Mobile i7, Intel® Core™2 Quad Mobile, but it actually has a i5 520m. Whats up with that?
Also I was just curious as to how this holds up against the ASUS g73 A1. The sager seems to have a better GPU, and 1333mhz ram (only 4gb tho), but what about the processor, how does the sagers i5 compare to ASUS's i7 720qm? And also the asus has the 500GB x2 HDD and a Bluray drive which isnt a huge deal to me considering its not really anything thats affecting performance. Strictly performance wise, which one is the victor?

There is an i5 vs i7 thread you will want to read that discusses the difference.
As far as GPU I wouldn't say the Sager has the better one in this case. Yes it will score you higher benchmark scores but in some games it has been shown to not perform as well as the 5870. General opinion right now is that card is not worth it especially when you factor in the heat it gives off.
For memory I would say 8 GBs at 1066 is far better than 4 at 1333, especially since the difference between 1066 and 1333 is negligible. At the same time 8 GB is probably overkill for the most part.
Not saying this means you should get the G73. Just depends on what you actually need the laptop for and what type of connections you need.

I was all set to get this laptop
& now you make me think :(
Im looking to get a laptop for Gaming
So is it better to look for a Laptop with Ati 5870 ?
wish we had that option in this laptop :)
just hate the moding of drivers in Ati
will we have hard time installing Nividia drivers too ?
How weak will this laptop be comparing it to AW m17x ?
I have a AW m17 & not to happy with it

I could already tell you that the AW m17x is a rip off. Someone already posted the stats of the base model m17x compared to the Asus g73 A1 and the g73 blew it out of the water. Your just paying top $$ for Dells name. I think to get the stats of the m17x up to the g73 it was costing like $2.3k and up lol

As far as AW goes, they aren't terrible but like Apple you are paying a lot for name. You will find a lot of machines on here that are better and far cheaper.
I'm not saying the 8850 is bad, the Sager comps are really good. The 480M is a powerful card, it's just because of the power required for it and the heat it generates, for the actual performance increase you are getting it doesn't seem worth it.
The great thing about the Sagers is many have said they are easily upgraded so you will get good life out of them and they seem to be worth the price.
G73 is also a very good computer. There have been issues that have scared some off but I'll tell you one thing, I absolutely love mine. Thing has some great stats at an even greater price. I always tell people to research the issues and if the potential problems are not a big deal then I highly recommend it for that starting price point. Once you start hitting the $1900 to $2000 mark is when the Sager models start matching up and exceeding the G73 for price and performance. The 8690 is a popular Sager model if you want a 15" screen and that one starts off cheap. It really all depends on what you want in your computer.

with Ati 5870 will it be a better & faster than 8850

No, well as said on some games?
I have not read all specs but from what I see 8760 w/5870 $1350, 8850 $2000. For the extra cost you get 480 and USB 3.0. For me absolutely not worth it. For others I don't know. Do you need Tessellation, USB 3.0? I don't. It takes more than a few fps to get me to spend that kind of money. And even going from 50fps to 60fps not worth it. Yea 10fps when talking from 15fps but 480 not doing that.
I just think the 8760 is the clear choice if value matters. Unless of course it offers something you need.

Money is not a Issue
Looking for Gaming laptop
dont want it to be laggy or stuttering at all
so what should i choose then ?
Few more questions:
Is this best choice for hard drive (will get it in Raid 0)
~ 500GB (w/ 4GB SSD Memory) Seagate XT 7200RPM NCQ Hybrid (Serial-ATA II 300 - 32MB Cache) ( + 100 )
Which of these Rams is better to choose ?
~ 8,192MB DDR3 1333MHz Dual Channel Memory (2 SODIMMS) ( + 215 )
~ 8,192MB DDR3 1066MHz Dual Channel Memory (2 SODIMMS) - Special! ( + 215 )
Is it worth getting the backup software cos Windows Ultimate comes with one ?
Thanks

Both are uber systems current tech. If you think you will need USB 3.0. I don't see me needing.
RAM I would get the faster no doubt. The lower CL of the 1066MHz is an equalizer. It does not make it surpass. Speed is still king so if same cost a no brainer.
On HDD I am not so up in some ways. But if money is no issue get SSD. But yes the SeaGate hybrids are getting very good response.
Backup? Don't understand, I just don't maybe someone else can answer.

Hey guys what do you think about getting a i7 620M instead of the i7 740QM ?
I mean games only uses two processors, with 2 meg cache for each one in 620m!
They only have 1.5 megs cache each one as 740 is only 6 meg cache for 4 processors...
Well what do you think?
I hope someone answer me what would be the right choice..
Very disappointed Asus going only with 460m in g73jw :(

For current games 620 is better but not because of cache. Higher clock speeds+hyperthreading are goo for games, however in the next few years especially with the growing popularity of 6 core processors(everyone on the newegg reviews has one?) more threads will be utilized than have been traditionally. My primary game:BC2 was designed in such a way.

Mm oke So i guess as more sense the 620m right now or the 840qm but it very expensive.
6 cores ? mm i hope we have to wait a lot to see that on a notebook! ;)

There is a Sager with a hexacore(is that the term?) in it I believe.

I believe L3 cache is shared by all cores so the divisibility of cache to cores is incorrect. More is more and less is less in this case.
There are examples of 720 doing better on some 620 better on others. GPU is so much more significant in most games it really does not matter. For the most part the ones it does (GTAIV) does benefit but from a quad.

Nice unboxing. NBR? Tell Charles oh I mean Chaz hi. Now that I am getting back into cars the term sleeper comes to mind. It looks like a normal notebook. All the action is under the hood.
Enjoy and post back how it does.

i made a post with a few pictures of the NP8850, inside and out. i have no idea what happened to my post though. i remember some kind of message telling me that the mods were reviewing my post or something? well it's been quite a while since i've made that post, and i still can't seem to find it. anyone have a clue?

Yes I know the Sager 7280 ( x7200) but if you were focusing in getting a lap with the 480m the 8850 was a better and "value" choice... I mean was cheaper...
Kind of sad they don't offer it anymore.

Sager 7280 is the Ultimate, very nice

with the 480m card or better :p
that would be real nice
