Some questions about options

I'm looking to order a laptop soon and I have some questions about what options to get with the laptop. I am looking for a home 2nd computer for general use and mainstream gaming.

1) Which would be better for my purposes, 1280 by 800 or a 1680 by 1050 screen. I prefer 1068 by 768 on my home 15" screen. I do not do much photo/video editing and gaming/internet will be my most common use.

2) Which is better Robson or a good USB readyboost. Some people are saying there is a problem with BSOD (blue screen of death) using Robson.

3) I do not currently have any bluetooth devices. Is it worthwhile to add it to the laptop now or is it easlily added later or just not worry about it. I am looking at the Sager 2090.

4) With the problems some games are having should I use 32 bit or 64 bit vista on a 2GB RAM system.

I recommend the 1680x1050 resolution. From our testing it is better to go with the Robson Memory. There are some users reporting some issues with it but overall is worth the minimal price for it.

You can add the bluetooth later if you want. If you dont have any BT Devices right now, I would do it later if you ever need it. One thing you can do is Dual Boot your system with 32/64 Bit. If you would not like to do this, I recommend going with 32-Bit to insure compatibility with your games.

Two more questions.

1. Am I correct in my understanding that readyboost and Robson are incompatible?

2. I am trying to choose between the 100GB 7200 harddrive and the 160GB 5400 harddrive. How much more battery life will I get with the 5400 rpm drive? How much realworld percentage performance increase is the 7200 over 5400?

wkmartin, I am doing some checking to confirm your 1st question. The battery life will be very close to the same as the 100GB 7200. I always recommend the 7200RPM as it helps with data/access rates and load time.


Danzilla - We have options available that will allow you to Dual Boot the machine with 32/64 -Bit This would prompt you at boot up on which version you would want to boot in. (you would have separate desktops on each version)

In another forum someone mentioned that dual boot effectively cuts your drive in half because each OS would use a dedicated part of the hard drive. Is this true?

That is correct. You would most likely need a large drive and have larger partitions for each OS.

I see..so if I wanted to dual boot vista ultimate 32 and 64 bit and I had the 100gb 7200 rpm hard drive, could you guys split the drive into 2 partitions and do that before it ships, or would you just send one OS installed?

We can set it up for a additional fee or you can do it yourself. We can partition the hard drive if you would like. By default we would send it with one OS installed.

ok, so if I ordered the Sager 2090 with the 100 gb hard drive, you guys could partition the drives and install both 32 and 64 bit for me, for an additional fee?

How much might such a fee be? Also, I'm expecting to order within about a month, do you think the same system will still be available?
