  • Longevity of the 7950gtx

Hey all, I'm looking at getting the Sager np5790 but I noticed that the 7950gtx isn't DirectX10 compatible. I was just wondering what this means in terms of how the card will be able to play new games on DX10 and Vista like Bioshock or Crysis. Will it be able to play these games? I'm just kind of confused about DX10 compatibility. Thanks for any help!

Nvidia geforce 7950 IS NOT dx10 compatible, it is a hardware thing.
However, the 7950 is the king of the hill , meaning the best mobile video card on the planet so far, so you can be sure that for at least 3 more years it is going to be a hot issue. When the mobile versions of the 8800 will appear, they will be very expensive,so the 7950 is a good choice still. With a bit of luck, you might even upgrade you video card later on, since some notebooks have MXM capability.
    Please refer to :
    http://www.nvidia.com/page/mxm.html
In case you are willing to wait, somewhere in the winter or next spring you will be able to aquire a notebook with a 8800m video card, hopefully. :P

xpc is right on The 7950 is not DX10, but is the best gaming card out today. There are not many games that use DX10 and will likely not be mainstream for a while.

So you could still play the new DX10 games but they wouldn't be as good as if you had a DX10 card?

You would get some more effects with the DX10 card. The 7950GTX will be able to handle most games into the future. It is the best out today in laptops
