  • 9262 DVD drive question (see specs in sig)

Folks...does anyone else have an 9262 w/ a DVD drive that has it occassionally just pop open? It's happened a few times to me...not a killer by any means, but certainly odd!

    pat!

I frequently carry my 9262 on edge and I'm pretty sure I hit the eject button myself. This is as close to a random opening that I've experienced.

this is happening more and more...and sometimes the DVD drive will begin the autoboot of a disc that has been sitting in there doing nothing for no good reason...and it's still popping out on occassion...could this be a driver issue? a firmware issue? it's a tad troubling!

      pat!

sounds like the latch holding the drive in may be loose...if you wiggle the front panel, does that cause it to open? or will it only pop open if you touch the release?

If the problem is not resolved by other suggestions, I would just get the DVD Rom replaced. I believe it would be covered in the warranty, but I am not sure if Xotic would send you a new drive or if you would need to send the entire laptop to them.

            robamb, ocg..thanks guys....

yep, wiggling it will cause it to open...is there a way to tighten the latch? I would hate to lose my drive....you basically can't do anything gaming wise w/ out it!!!

I would call tech support and talk to them about possible fixes, or if they can replace just the drive. If you crack open the dvd rom you may void the warrenty. I would at least double check with either of the Justins

the popping open could also be caused by the emergency eject hole in the front of the dvd drive. if u hv used it before u could hv possibly pushed it in too far causeing the latching mech to get out of alignment. i have to use mine from time to time when i put in command and conquer 3. for some reason when i put in the disk, occasionally its like the game locks up the systm. the dvd drive spins REAL FAST AND NOISY and never registers anything on the screen so the only way i can stop the application is to use that little pin hole or use THE FINGER OF GOD as i call it...aka a hard shutdown. not saying thats your prob but maybe. lol laterz.........

Sager sent me a new drive, I plopped it in, called Xotic support on Saturday night because after I put it in, my PC didn't recognize it, Thane quickly emailed me a link to a quick fix that helped the Bios find the drive again and so far, the problem has NOT repeated itself!

Thanks Sager for the RMA return and thanks Thane and Xotic for the sat. night support!

                        later,
